I would suggest...if we do Hodges...let's start at the parking lot at Date Lane and Lake Dr. That cuts out a lot of the fireroad miles and makes it more likely we will make it to the "funny switchbacks" at the western end. It will still be a longish ride and we can always head east from there when we get back if folks want more miles.
At the junction of Date Lane and Lake Dr is the euphemistically named Del Dios Community Park which appears to be a parking lot with a porta potty. You get there from the east from I 15 going west on West Valley Parkway which turns into Del Dios Highway. Go through the light at Via Rancho straight and you soon come to Date Lane. Go left on Date and you will run into Lake Dr and the "Park"
From the west, get to Del Dios your favorite way (I go Via de la Valle wending east/right turns) onto Del Dios HIghway. I generally go right at Rancho Drive (sign to Hernandez Hideaway) to Lake...go left on Lake...and in 1-2 miles get to the "Park" at Lake and Date. The lot is on the right. If the gate isn't open yet to access the lot there are parking spaces on the north side of Lake near a little store.
