Hi Peter ! I demo'd a small Mach 4 and an XS Mach 6. There was a young woman team rider for Pivot there who was roughly my size and made those recommendations...and the fit of both was spot on. The demo was at Black Mountain which is relentless steep loose rocky fireroads and singletrack..very little cruising. The Mach 6 actually climbed better for me than the Mach 4 which may have been due to superior tires..but I also found the Mach 4 "wandered" more in the front end. Not sure why...I may have needed a bit longer stem to slow the handling down ? The Mach 6 was very stable descending. Generally when I descend loose rocky stuff I feel bounced around and at risk for sliding out. For the first time EVER I did not have that feeling..and could focus more on choosing a line or speeding up, instead of trying not to slide out. Was it the bike ? I think so... Ibis/Cal Coast has a demo of its new HD3 tomorrow but they only have mediums and larges...and they have markedly increased the "reach" of the cockpit in this design (by nearly 2 inches) which might not work as well for me, even in a small.
