I talked to Julie about going out to Santa Ysabel Preserve for our ride tomorrow to get some climbing miles in as a part of our rigorous pre-Camino training. But we could do something more local if we can't get good participation for the ride. Next weekend will be warmer and closer to "normal" weather conditions.
Let me know what you think and prefer.

That's a good way to take
That's a good way to take advantage of this continuing cool/cold weather...
Of course it might be nice if the RM would give us some more finer points to consider:
Scenic beauty: The Santa Ysabel Preserve provides picturesque views of rolling hills, grasslands, oak woodlands, and native chaparral. You'll be able to enjoy the natural beauty of the area as you ride through the preserve.
Wildlife and nature: The preserve is home to a diverse array of plants and animals, offering opportunities to spot local wildlife such as deer, wild turkey, and various bird species. The preserve is also known for its abundant wildflowers in the spring.
Variety of trails: The Santa Ysabel Preserve features a network of trails that cater to various skill levels, making it suitable for mountain bikers of all abilities. Some popular trails include the Kanaka Loop Trail, the Coast to Crest Trail, and the Santa Ysabel Creek Trail.
Solitude: The preserve is less crowded than other popular mountain biking destinations in the San Diego area, allowing for a more peaceful and serene riding experience.
Historical landmarks: The Santa Ysabel Preserve has a rich history, and you may come across historical landmarks such as old ranch structures and Native American artifacts while exploring the area.
Opportunities for other outdoor activities: In addition to mountain biking, the Santa Ysabel Preserve offers opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, and birdwatching.
Before visiting the Santa Ysabel Preserve, be sure to check the trail conditions, e-bike regulations, and any local restrictions. Always practice proper trail etiquette and leave no trace principles to help maintain the natural beauty of the area.
There are some disadvantages to consider when planning a mountain biking trip to the Santa Ysabel Preserve:
Remote location: The preserve is located farther from the city center of San Diego compared to other popular mountain biking destinations. This means you might need to travel longer distances to reach the preserve, which could be inconvenient for some riders.
Limited amenities: Santa Ysabel Preserve may not have as many amenities as more developed parks or trail systems. There may be fewer restrooms, water stations, and picnic areas available.
Trail maintenance: Depending on the season and recent weather conditions, some trails in the preserve may not be as well-maintained as those in more popular destinations. This could result in overgrown vegetation or trail erosion that could make riding more challenging.
Cell phone reception: Due to the preserve's remote location, cell phone reception can be spotty in some areas, which could be a concern in case of emergencies or if you need to access maps or other information while on the trails.
Fewer trail markings: Some trails in the Santa Ysabel Preserve might not be as clearly marked as those in more popular destinations, making it more challenging to navigate and increasing the risk of getting lost.
Seasonal challenges: During the summer months, the Santa Ysabel Preserve can become quite hot, making it less enjoyable to ride during peak heat hours. Conversely, during the winter, trails can become muddy and slippery after rainfall, making them more difficult to navigate.
When planning your trip to the Santa Ysabel Preserve, it's important to consider these disadvantages and make the necessary preparations to ensure a safe and enjoyable ride. Check the weather conditions, bring sufficient water and snacks, have a map or GPS device on hand, and let someone know your planned route and expected return time.
Hmm
Last time the uphill was overgrown and rather impossible to ride - on a normal bike. Prefer Mt Laguna- for distance we could add the Champagne pass option.

I think the mountains might be windy tomorrow based on what I'm seeing today. But I'm up for it if you think it will be ok.
So I just checked most of the
So I just checked most of the forecasts again. As Jerry said, it will be windy in the mountains tomorrow. The Lagunas and Cuyamacas are the worst. Santa Ysabel is not as bad, but the gusts will be up to 18mph. Maybe it's better to do something local. I know Reiner won't like this, but we could do Raptor Ridge with the add on going all the way east until the trail ends at Hwy 78. Or we could just do Santee.

My allergy symptoms have morphed into a cold !! Remember those nuisance things we used to get ? Probably best for me to lay low, hopefully just 2-3 days. Have a good ride.
I'm sorry to hear that you're under the weather Julie. Get some rest and get well. 20 days before we leave for Spain!
So for the rest of us, let's meet at the Raptor Ridge trailhead at 8:30. My apologies to Reiner and Christine as I know this is not your favorite ride.
Lastly, Pete let me know if you need a ride. Plan on leaving my house around 7:45.
Thanks everyone for your patience. I hope we can ride in the mountains next weekend.
